New York State Police say three Delaware County businesses failed to comply with state alcohol laws during an underage drinking enforcement detail conducted on Friday, September 5.
The compliance checks are part of ongoing efforts to prevent underage drinking and promote community safety, according to State Police. During the detail, plainclothes Troopers worked with underage operatives who attempted to purchase alcohol. The operatives are not allowed to lie about their age or provide a false date of birth if asked.
Businesses found in violation included:
- Stewarts Shops, Lake Street, Stamford
- Margaretville Liquor Store, Main Street, Margaretville
- Margaretville Wine & Liquor, State Highway 28, Arkville
At each location, an employee was issued an appearance ticket for prohibited sale of alcohol to a person under 21, a violation under the New York State Alcoholic Beverage Control Law.
Seven other establishments passed the compliance check and were recognized by police for following the law:
- Sunoco, Harper Street, Stamford
- Mirabito, Main Street, Hobart
- Roxbury Wine & Spirits, State Highway 30, Roxbury
- Sunoco, State Highway 30, Roxbury
- Sunoco, Main Street, Margaretville
- Speedway, State Highway 28, Margaretville
- It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere, Main Street, Stamford
State Police say details like these are conducted periodically across the region to hold businesses accountable and encourage responsible alcohol sales.
