New York State troopers arrested two men early Wednesday after a stolen vehicle and weapons were recovered in the Town of Mamakating.
At approximately 11:13 p.m. on Nov. 4, troopers responded to reports of four individuals walking along State Route 17 near Exit 116. The group had been seen near a 2019 Infiniti reported stolen out of Nassau County.
Troopers later located the four at a Citgo gas station on State Route 17K in Bloomingburg. Authorities identified them as Shane L. Williams, 21, of New York, N.Y.; Jeremiah Leckey, 22, of the Bronx; a 21-year-old male from Yonkers; and a 22-year-old male from the Bronx.
During searches, troopers recovered a loaded Beretta 9mm pistol, later confirmed stolen, from Williams. Leckey was found with metal knuckles and a knife. The other two men were questioned, found to be unarmed, and released without charges.
Williams faces charges including:
- Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree, Firearm, Class E Felony
- Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Class E Felony
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Loaded Firearm, Class C Felony
Leckey was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, Previous Conviction, Class D Felony.
Both were arraigned in the City of Middletown Court. Williams was remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail, $2,500 secured bond, or $2,500 partially secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Town of Wallkill Court on Nov. 19. Leckey was remanded in lieu of $1,000 cash bail, $2,500 secured bond, or $2,500 partially secured bond and is scheduled for a Nov. 10 court appearance. Both were transported to the Orange County Jail without incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
