Posted on December 1, 2025December 1, 2025 by Tim Bruno

A Nor’easter is set to bring the first significant snowfall of the season to Sullivan County and much of New York on Tuesday, prompting a Winter Storm Warning from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., the National Weather Service said.

Winter Watches and Warnings are in effect for parts of the Southern Tier, Mid-Hudson and Capital Regions where snow totals could surpass seven inches. Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for parts of the Western New York, Central New York, Finger Lakes and Mid-Hudson regions in New York and in Northeast Pennsylvania which are expected to receive less than six inches of snow. The storm is expected to create difficult driving conditions during the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.

Snowfall Forecast:

  • 5 to 9 inches expected in Sullivan County, including Monticello, Liberty, Wurtsboro, and Callicoon

  • 3 to 6 inches expected in Northern Wayne, Pike, and Southern Wayne Counties, including Honesdale, Damascus, Milford, and Equinunk
  • Rates of 1–2 inches per hour during late morning and early afternoon

  • Highest totals possible in the Catskills and higher elevations

Travel Impacts:
Officials warn of hazardous road conditions, especially during morning and evening commutes. Governor Kathy Hochul urged New Yorkers to plan ahead, stock vehicles with essentials, and allow extra travel time. “State agencies stand ready to assist, but everyone should stay weather aware and monitor forecasts,” she said.

New York State Preparations:

  • NY Department of Transportation: 3,500+ operators, 1,600+ plow trucks, 75 incident command staff

  • Thruway Authority: 685 operators, 349 plows, 131,000+ tons of salt

  • NY State Police, DEC, and other agencies on alert to respond to emergencies

Safety Tips:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel

  • Keep blankets, food, water, and a flashlight in vehicles

  • Stay behind snowplows; do not attempt to pass

  • Monitor road conditions via 511NY.org

Additional Information:
Code Blue measures are in effect for those experiencing homelessness when temperatures or wind chills drop below 32°F. Hikers and backcountry visitors should exercise caution and check trail conditions in the Catskills and Adirondacks.
