The Village of Monticello Police Department is actively investigating a series of overnight shootings that occurred during the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 30.
Incident 1 – Landfield Avenue, Monticello
At approximately 12:23 a.m., Sullivan County 911 received a report of gunfire outside a residence on Landfield Avenue. A 17-year-old female sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and a graze wound to her neck. She was transported by private vehicle to Garnet Health Medical Center in Harris before officers arrived. The victim was later airlifted to Westchester Medical Center for further treatment. The residence was struck by multiple rounds.
Incident 2 – Sleepy Hollow Apartments, Terry Lane, Monticello
At 1:51 a.m., 911 received several calls about shots fired at the Sleepy Hollow apartment complex on Terry Lane. Multiple buildings were hit by gunfire. In one case, a bullet entered a bedroom wall, passing over a bed where a child was sleeping.
Incident 3 – Dill Road, Town of Forestburgh
At 1:56 a.m., the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office responded to another report of shots fired into a residence on Dill Road in Forestburgh.
Authorities believe all three incidents are connected. A joint investigation is currently underway, involving the Village of Monticello Police Department, New York State Police, Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, and the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office.
