Posted on January 28, 2025 by Patricio Robayo

Rock Hill, NY — Extreme sun glare is being cited as the primary cause of a major motor vehicle accident that occurred at approximately 7:45 AM on Monday morning, January 27, 2025, according to the Rock Hill Fire Department, on State Route 17 eastbound, between exits 108 and 109. The crash, involving eight vehicles, prompted a coordinated emergency response and resulted in traffic disruptions.

Responding to the scene were the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Police, NYS Department of Transportation, Rock Hill EMS, Bethel EMS, Mamakating EMS, Mountaindale EMS, Empress EMS, SeniorCare EMS, Sullivan County 911, and County EMS 1.

Ten individuals with non-life-threatening injuries were transported to area medical facilities for treatment.

State Route 17 eastbound was temporarily closed for about one hour between exits 108 and 109 to allow emergency responders to operate.

The Rock Hill Fire Department added in a social media post, “We urge all drivers to exercise caution during morning commutes in this area. Stay alert and drive safely!”
