Three people were wounded in a shooting outside Nelly’s Sports Bar on Broadway in the early hours of Monday morning, August 18.
Village of Monticello Police responded at approximately 1:38 a.m. to a 911 call reporting gunfire in front of the bar, located at 456 Broadway. Upon arrival, officers discovered that two men had sustained gunshot wounds to their right shoulders, while a third man suffered a graze wound to the arm.
One of the shooting victims, despite his injury, managed to drive himself to the Monticello Police Station. There, Dispatcher Danielle Cassidy—who is also a certified EMT—provided immediate emergency care in the station lobby.
Due to inclement weather, requests for two medevac helicopters were declined. Instead, two of the injured were transported by ambulance to Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown, where they were listed in serious condition.
Preliminary investigation indicates that multiple suspects opened fire from a lot adjacent to the bar, aiming toward the sidewalk along Broadway where all three victims were standing at the time.
Monticello Police were assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, and the Town of Fallsburg Police Department. Emergency medical support was provided by Empress EMS, Town of Bethel Volunteer EMS, Town of Tusten Volunteer EMS, Hatzalah Catskills EMS, Senior Care EMS, and the Monticello Fire Department.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Monticello Police Department confidentially at 845-794-4422.
